CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Griffin Schumacher of the No. 23 men’s swimming and diving team has been named the COOP Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 3.
Schumacher collected a pair of top-two finishes in individual events and was a part of three relay teams that took the top spot in the annual HYP meet for the second consecutive. The Crimson downed Princeton and Yale, 213-140 and 203-150 respectively. The junior collected first place and a NCAA ‘B’ cut time in the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.96 before grabbing second in the 100 free behind teammate Chris Satterthwaite, swimming the distance in 44.27 seconds.
The New York, N.Y., native also was a member of the 200 freestyle relay that clocked in at 1:19.12, the 200 medley relay team that touched the wall in 1:28.34, beating out Princeton’s unit by .31 seconds, and a member of the 400 free relay quartet to take first in 2:55.13.
The sweep gives the Crimson (7-2, 6-0 Ivy League) a shot to lay claim to its second consecutive Ivy League dual meet championship, holding a 6-0 League mark with just one dual remaining.
