CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Melanie Baskind has been named the Harvard COOP Athlete of the Week for Sept. 26. Baskind led the Crimson women’s soccer team to two victories last week.
In Harvard’s Ivy League opener, Baskind scored both goals for the Crimson in a 2-0 win over Penn Sept 23. The Framingham, Mass., native scored after a cross from Peyton Johnson at 13:02 before adding her team-high seventh goal of the year on another Johnson assist at 24:42.
Baskind contributed her 13th and 14th points of the year on two assists to help the Crimson past New Hampshire, 4-1, Sept. 25. After the Crimson jumped to a 2-0 lead at the half, Baskind assisted on goals by Elizabeth Weisman and Meg Casscells-Hamby in a three-minute span at the beginning of the second half to put the game out of reach.
The co-captain, who also serves as co-captain of the lacrosse team and is an All-Ivy League recipient in both sports, is a candidate for Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.
